 Cyprus IMC / Invitation

We are a group of colleagues working toward the creation of a wider assemblage which will be representative of all the communities of Cyprus.  We are committed to the creation of an Independent Center of Information / News, out of the reach of the machinery of parties, profits, and every form of authority.  We are not professional journalists, just volunteers.

Our aim is to offer an alternative / radical view of events on our island, and also of developments in the rest of the world relating to, or affecting Cyprus.  We are not trapped within the confines of the parties of either the right or the left.

We work within the context of direct democracy where decisions are made through consensus by all members together.

The principles guiding the way we operate are those of social self-organization, decentralization and local autonomy, founded on the equality of all people.  We reject all forms of authoritarianism, no matter what its origins.  We allow for no discrimination of any kind on the basis of nationality, religion, class, gender, or sexual identity.

We desire to cooperate with people who are interested in participating in the building of such a grouping founded on the above principles.  Specialized skills are not required.  We invite each person to participate according to ability.  The only requirements are good intentions and a desire to cooperate in an atmosphere of equality and subtlety.

We desire this effort to be actualized within the global network of Independent Media Centers (IMC) which is being created by the efforts of many independent groups all over the world.  We are hundreds of volunteer journalists who provide independent and direct information without interference by party, government, financial, or other authoritarian interests. Every contribution to this non-profit project is aimed at building a freer and a more just society.

If our invitation moves you, we'd be happy if you would communicate with us.
